Orange Syrup Cake

Dear Hélène,
Here is the cake recipe that you asked for.
Lovely
P.S. even if your name is not Hélène you are more than welcome to try it.
Orange Syrup Cake
adapted from Kiwi chef Annabel Langbein

3/4 cup flour
3/4 tsp baking powder (levure chimique)
1/2 cup semolina
1 cup ground almonds
125g butter
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence
3 eggs
60mls orange juice
Syrup
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup orange juice
1/2 cup sugar
finely grated rind of half an orange
1 cinnamon stick

Preheat the oven to 180°C. Line a 23cm cake tin.
In a bowl mix together the dry ingredients - flour, semolina and almonds.
In another bowl beat together the butter and sugar until pale yellow.
Beat in the eggs one at a time.
Stir in half of the dry ingredients.
Add the orange juice and vanilla essence, and the rest of the dry ingredients. Mix until evenly combined.
Pour the mixture into the lined cake tin and bake for 30mins until a skewer comes out clean when you poke it in.
  Syrup
Place all the ingredients in a saucepan and slowly bring to the boil. You want the sugar to dissolve completely before the sauce boils. Simmer gently for 10 mins.
When the cake comes out of the oven, leave in the cake tin and pour over the hot syrup. Leave in the cake tin for 5 mins before turning out.
Keep in the fridge - if you don't eat it all on the first day!
