A trip to L.A.

We were lucky enough to spend 5 days in Los Angeles just before Christmas. We found it a spacious city, at least compared to Paris. It seems that nobody walks, rather they drive. Hence the roads are mildy busy (if you discount the freeways. We happened to get stuck in 2 hours of freeway jam) and the lovely wide pavements are void of people. Starbucks is EVERYWHERE, as are neon signs and advertising.

Our food experiences were rather frightening. Jetlagged on our first night after a long flight during which the entertainment system broke down for 8 hours, we decided to go for an all american experience recommended to us by our hotel. It probably would've been fine had we not been so tired and if we had not chosen the chilli sauce on our burgers. My handsome husband's french foodie's nose turned up in disgust at the sloppy mixture dollopped on an otherwise happy burger and he refused to eat it.  I managed half of the burger but only by scrapping off the offending chilli.
Is there any real food substance in fast food chilli sauce?
It doesn't look or taste like it.
Not to worry. We found an amazing thai restaurant next door and had several happy food moments there. Next time you're in L.A. you need to check out Palms Thai restaurant. It seems to be always full of people and most of them of thai origins - a good sign. And if you're lucky Elvis might sing a few songs while you're there.
America has even managed to americanise France.  We didn't bother to check out the crêpes to see if they were actually crêpes or rather pancakes. I think I was too scared to find out.
